In exchange, the Browns are sending a first and third-round pick plus Jabrill Peppers to the Giants. Last summer the Giants made the decision not to let Beckham play out the final year of his rookie deal without an extension, which in their view eliminated one potential distraction for first-year head coach Pat Shurmur.
The biggest victor from the Odell Beckham jr. trade besides long-suffering Browns fans, is quarterback Baker Mayfield, who now gets to throw passes to one of the NFL's best receivers. The Giants potentially trading Beckham is not something new to this offseason, it is something we have heard about for years, this season was apparently just the year it finally happened. The 28-year-old Smith led the Ravens with 8½ sacks last season - including three in one game against Tennessee - and has 18½ in his 58-game career.
Odell Beckham Jr. isn't sure what to think about the trade that sent him to the Cleveland Browns. Especially when the Giants could be getting their quarterback of the future in this year's National Football League draft.
On the back end, Peppers is a solid, young player, but he's nowhere close to as talented as Collins.
UNC Basketball: Coby White breaks Tar Heels freshman 3-point record
It remains unknown whether the freshman will be ready for Duke's regular-season finale against North Carolina on Saturday. North CarolinaSaturday's game in Chapel Hill is the 250th meeting, with North Carolina leading the series, 138-111...
The deal for Beckham Jr.is conditional on both players passing physicals. They get their franchise quarterback and one of the top talents of the draft. The Giants lost the game 38-13 and Beckham was held to four catches for just 28 yards.
"I feel like in the past five years they found a way to run a Cover 2, keep everything in front, and that's how they play me - and there's no way to say "How do we beat this?"
As for the Browns, and the team-building they've been doing over the last few years? They've already added Sheldon Richardson and Odell Beckham Jr. today, and they apparently aren't slowing down anytime soon. But it sure does seem like he would have been better off, at least from the perspective of earning the most amount of money as early as possible, taking the contract the Steelers offered him.
It also makes the Browns a strong contender to win the AFC North and possibly even make a Super Bowl run.
