Search teams used used tracking dogs and helicopters to look for the girls Saturday following an all-night effort Friday, according to the publication.

Two young girls reported missing in the California wilderness late last week were found safe Sunday.

The sisters were last seen at 2:30 p.m. Friday after they asked their mother if they could take a walk in the woods, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The girls had been missing since Friday afternoon, when they walked off into a wooded area near their home.

Police described Caroline Carrico as "a white female, 3 feet 6 inches tall, 40 pounds, with hazel eyes and blonde hair with bright purple streaks".

A photo released by the sheriff's department showed Caroline, dressed in a pink sweater and matching rain boots, speaking with a firefighter shortly after she and her big sister were found.

"Leia Dorice Carrico is 4'2" tall, weighs 85 pounds, haz hazel eyes and blond hair and a large freckle on her left cheek. He said Sheriff's Special Services deputies, Southern Humboldt Technical Rescue, and CAL FIRE crews were among those to conduct an initial search of the area, continuing through the night.

Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal has confirmed at a press conference that the two young sisters lost in the woods near Benbow have been found alive and well.

She said "no" but noticed soon after that the girls were gone.

There are now ten search teams on the hill above Benbow, a prominently rural area of Humboldt County, according to HCSO.

HCSO reports a black hawk helicopter is searching from above for the girls.

"We found some granola bar wrappers and we were able to confirm with the mom that yes, these are granola bars that (she's) bought in the last few days", said Lt. Mike Fridley, according to the publication. Leia and Caroline were found cold and dehydrated but in good spirits.

"These girls have defiantly a survival story to tell and we're definitely looking forward to hear it from them", he said. "It's kind of like a chess game".
